We have 10 categories to choose from, you can choose which category that aligns with your message and objectives. Each nomination will be judged on the quality of the entry rather than number of nominations. So if you are a small business, medium or large business, a social enterprise, a sole trader or a school… NOW is your chance to stand out from the rest and share your story!

Entries

You can enter in more than one category. You can nominate your own business and/or a fellow business

Who is eligible?

Nominations can be submitted from the business/school/organisation itself or another party. All categories require the following to be eligible:

  • The business/organisation must have a St Helens base
  • Submitted their nomination prior to the deadline
  • Agree to be filmed if shortlisted
  • All shortlisted will be required to attend the awards evening – 7th November
  • Each entry must be submitted on a separate entry form
  • A sponsor cannot enter an award in the category that they are sponsoring

Other rules

  • The comments made on your application form should be accurate to the best of your knowledge
  • Information provided should be relevant to activities in the previous 18 months from point of nomination
  • Judges will decide the winners based on the written submissions. Try to include as much information as possible
  • Entry is solely on your application form, there will be no site visits
  • All entries must be submitted online, if you have any queries about hard copies of evidence please contact the team
  • The Judges reserve the right to move your application to another category or to add you to another category
  • The Judges’ decision is final
  • Entrants must be available for consultation with the judges should the need arise
  • By entering the awards, you agree to partake in publicity of the awards including the use of any images taken
  • Should a category not receive sufficient entries, it will be withdrawn from the Awards Ceremony
  • We reserve the right to extend the deadline

Community Impact Award

+

Are you a business, a social enterprise, charity, public body or a voluntary group that partakes in initiatives that support your local community’s long-term social and economic needs? It may refer to the work you do as a whole or one specific project.

We are looking for:

  • Meeting ethical, environmental and community goals
  • Work with apprenticeships
  • Development of capacity of individuals or groups in your community
  • Helping people in to employment
  • Helping to tackle a particular social issue

Judges will consider:

• Understanding and identification of the need of our community and the specific issues
• Demonstrate effective collaboration
• Helping to overcome specific disadvantage[s]
• Innovative, high quality and inspiring;
• Sharable/replicable
• Evidence impact

Skills for the Future Award

+

To recognise work of schools, business or organisations who are supporting our students and residents with the skills needed to ensure they benefit from quality jobs created by our economy.

We are looking for:

  • Work with children of school age to prepare them for the future economy, equipping them with a broad and adaptable skill set that will best prepare them
  • Working with St Helens residents to ensure they are best placed to succeed in work and life.
  • Encouraging residents to develop and deepen specialist skills needed by future economic growth sectors or in areas of demand.
  • Supporting residents who already have deep specialist skills to develop other competencies.

Judges will consider:

  • How you have reflected the future economy
  • Innovation and creativity
  • Demonstrate sustainable mutually beneficial partnerships working
  • How you have supported residents to develop their resilience and adaptability for the changing nature of work.
  • Evidence that the programme has created a positive and lasting change for the group, the wider organisation, community and the business.

Entrepreneur of the Year Award

If you are self-employed, sole trader or a limited company with no other employees than yourself, this award will celebrate the desire and determination of entrepreneurs.

Judges will consider:

  • Entrepreneurial spirit (i.e. ideas into practice, lessons learnt, overcoming adversity and obstacles etc.)
  • Demonstrates drive, determination and agility
  • Reputation and feedback from customers and stakeholders
  • What makes them a success and key achievements
  • Potential for future growth and expansion

Small Business of the Year

In 2018 small businesses (0-49 employees) accounted for 97.8% of all private sector enterprises in St Helens.

The Small Business of the Year Award recognises the achievements of those with 1 to 49 employees. It celebrates the vital role these play in building St Helens profile as an incubator for innovation and business growth.

This award is specifically designed to recognise businesses in St Helens who are improving access to, and delivering growth and innovation in the Creative Industries.

The award is open to a diverse range of businesses including for example, advertising and marketing, architecture, crafts, design, fashion, film, TV, video, radio, photography, IT, software and computer services, publishing, museums, galleries, libraries, music, performing and visual arts organisations.

The Developer of the Year Award celebrates one developer that has demonstrated leadership and innovation in the commercial or residential market in St Helens. From small schemes to large developments. Whatever your successes – we want to know about it.

  • The developer has the ability or has shown adaptability to market conditions.

Development of the Year Award

The Development of the Year Award celebrates an outstanding development that has made/will make an impact in St Helens and its contribution to St Helens Profile has a place to invest/live

The development must of been completed or has funding and recently received planning consent

Judges will consider:

  • The impact the development has/will make and its contribution to St Helens
  • Detail of outstanding quality design and marketing, innovation and confidence demonstrated
  • The development has the ability or has shown adaptability to market conditions.
  • Community, client and other stakeholder engagement
  • Overcome challenges
  • Commitment to place-making

Peoples Business Choice Award

+

This is the only category decided by public vote, via an online voting system. This category provides a rare opportunity for customers, clients, employees, business contacts and followers to express their views by voting for their personal favourite St Helens business

Criteria:

Invest St Helens has nominated ten businesses. However, a voter can choose any business and add this business as their vote

  • One vote per email address. Everyone records their email address when they vote. This helps minimise the risk of double voting. These email address will not be added to any mailing lists.
  • The company or organisation with the most votes wins
  • Businesses are free to use their social media, email communications and website to encourage people to vote for their business
  • You can vote for your own business

Once voting has closed at 4pm on the 6th September, all votes will be counted to identify the overall Winner and Highly Commended in this category. Both will be revealed at the Awards Ceremony on Thursday 7th November.

All votes must require the following to be eligible:

  • The business must have a St Helens base
  • Vote submitted prior to the deadline
  • Businesses (Winner and any Highly Commended) will be informed whether to attend the awards evening – 7th November 2019, however will not be informed which they will receive until the awards ceremony.

Invest St Helens Achievement Award

This award will be chosen by the judging panel to recognise a key individual/ business/organisation that has taken part in outstanding work and demonstrated commitment to raise St Helens’ profile as a place to invest, live and visit.

Overall winner of the Invest St Helens Business Awards, chosen by the judging panel from all finalists and winners.
